It amazes me that in 2009, there are still hundreds of thousands of applications being developed everyday without someone like myself (a user experience designer/specialist) manning the helm from the perspective of the user’s experience with that site or application. This is a great article about “why” you need a user experience role on your project teams. When designing charts and reports in web apps, we often have to get creative in displaying a lot of complex data in a meaningful way. I was prepared to find flaws in this post because the title is actually “9 Crucial UI Features of SM & Networking Sites.” Many of the suggestions are things I do on a routine basis when designing modern web applications of any type (not just social media focused.) These are not crucial features however, but rather design techniques to keep the eye focused on the user’s task at hand.

Unfortunately, I don’t believe these work with IE or Chrome, but if workarounds can be developed, these buttons are really fine-looking and can make your UI a lot nicer!
